Skiers over 60, who are still going: A look at the people who taught you to ski, and the photos they took. 100 photos and stories from 100 skier/photographers.
Reginald Bourguiba - Still at it at 67
For many years my main activity was back country telemarking out the back of Guthega with my great mate. The attached photo shows me telemarking Roger’s Pass in the Rockies on our big North America trip. (“Hey Jed, there’s a couple of Aussies here wanna go play around in the avalanches.”)
A couple of years ago, my daughter wanted to learn snowboarding so we had a week at Thredbo doing lessons. Now I’m a confirmed snowboarder with three weeks in Japan under my belt, and next year’s trip booked.
About to head off for another week at Thredbo with my daughter. ![]()
Scott Stewart
Hi, I don't want to introduce myself and I am sure nobody cares about the picture I took. But you can guess where I am if you want to.
Derek Osborne
70 next birthday and still going strong 💪
Rick Keller - Who else is ready and excited for another ski season?
Only about 10 weeks until the first US area opens!
Where will you be skiing?
Daniel Frieling - King Cornice
Arapahoe Basin, King Cornice, spring of 1988 or 89. Get a little speed and drop a bunch.
Douglas Peter Edgar - Scotland.
May 1985, I'm considering next pole plant?
H Dana Allen - Mom, Lena Gale, 1952
Vadim Levlev
Marker "explode-a-mat" heels, maybe Rossi Strato 102's on the right
Margot Mulcahy - Matterhorn, 2 sides
Hi all! I would like to share a photo of my sister and myself. 1959/ 2024 from both sides of the Matterhorn! (Lucky kids then, and lucky old women now!)
Bill Wardwell - '61 Bug
Just an alert in case you didn't know... Palisades Tahoe Ski Area (formerly known as Squaw Valley) now offers FREE UNLIMITED skiing for all skiers aged 80 or older. Just show up with age identification and they'll cut you a special pass. Happily, I turn 80 in November! Pic below is me and my '61 Bug taken at Vail in December 1965 by my college skiing buddy. I was a student at the University of Colorado at the time. 205cm Head GS Competition skis, LOOK bindings. I'm parked on old US Highway 6 (now a bike trail) near East Vail on the way back to Boulder after a great day of skiing. The water shard behind my VW was really cool. In those days they pumped water out of Gore Creek and sprayed it in the air at this spot. It would freeze and by season's end there would be a fantastic wall of ice reflecting the colors of the rainbow! BTW… black shoe polish on the top of those black HEAD skis after a day of skiing kept them looking like new! I should add there was little or no traffic in those days. My average driving time from Boulder to Vail was about 2hrs+10minutes. And that included driving up and over Loveland Pass!
Evan Tobin - Snowbird, hiking The Twins, at 53yrs old
The Twins tower over the top of Snowbird. After a 500' vertical climb you're on the top of Utah with full 360° view. And nothing is roped off so you need to know where to go, and where to not go.
Chris Mikell - Skiing "Volkswagens"
May 1, 1982, the first time in history Stowe was open in May. The moguls on the Liftline Trail, back then, were described as "Volkswagens". With today's shaped shorter skis bumps are usually much tighter than this. Skiing these on a set of 203cm skis was also exciting.
